There hasn’t been a single moment, a single point in my life journey when I felt that I didn’t need help or support from anyone. I’ve always looked to my support systems for anything and everything, whether it be advice or just a shoulder to cry on.
Mom, Dad and Tiff: The Family
My parents have been my primary source of support and love – I know I can always count on them, no matter what the circumstances. Though we may not always agree on everything, and have to resort to shouting matches in an attempt to solve a problem, the solution is almost always found. My parents are, to me, an endless pool of knowledge and experience and they are always willing to help steer me onto the right course. My sister, Tiff, is whom I like to call ‘my twinny’. She is my other half and I definitely couldn’t get through half my problems without having her next to me the entire way. My family is my world and the amount of love I have for them cannot be expressed in words.
The Work Buddies: Colleagues and Professional Mentors
Sometimes, unbiased support is the best way to go. Family will always love and support you no matter what and will almost always take your side. Luckily, my short time in the working world so far has allowed me to cross paths with some amazing and inspirational professionals. I really look to my professors, co-workers and colleagues to address my professional concerns, simply because each person’s experiences in the working world is so different and unique. I truly value the vast amounts of knowledge that is acquired with each experience and, trust me, professionals know how to give constructive criticism. They aren’t afraid to tell me what I’m lacking or what needs to be improved – at the same time, they’re the first ones to reward me if they’re impressed with my work and this is something I sincerely appreciate.
The Friends: Family Met Along the Way
I doubt anyone would argue with me when I say friends are probably most people’s support system of choice. You talk with your friends about everything, whether it be career, romance or life in general. My friends motivate me, console me and support me in ways that are different from actual family. And let’s be honest, there are certain things you can discuss with friends that you just can’t discuss with your Mom or little sister!
I’m pretty happy with the people in my life, for I’m always certain there will always be someone there to catch me when I fall. Not only that, they’ll be right next to me during the grueling climb back up. I can only hope that everyone can be as lucky as I am to have people who’ll help them, support them and love them through the good times and the bad.
