Have you ever jumped into doing some kind of activity or job just because you had no reason not to? Have you ever moved around because the idea of saying “no” made no sense? Have you ever had the feeling like there could only be a positive outcome for just doing and not thinking?
I have. I actually do this quite a lot.
I never really planned to waitress in New York City the summer after I graduated college and take on Manhattan with my best friend, but the cards just stacked up in my favor. I never planned to move abroad and teach at a school, but I couldn’t turn down the chance when it came. I never planned to pack my bag with a week’s notice and move down to Washington, DC for an internship, turned full-time job, turned move to NYC (where I currently am). And, I never planned to be a blogger, but then I began doing personal blogging for BrandKit 16 weeks ago!
Blogging for BrandKit was an opportunity I stumbled upon while surfing around the web during work one day, a perfectly acceptable thing to be doing when you work in social media and communication. I saw there was an opportunity to guest post and later realized that Andrea, the creator of Brandkit.co, was someone I had met professionally at a conference not too far back. How could I not take the chance, reach out, and begin my personal blogging? The answer in my head was… I couldn’t – so here I am 16 weeks later.
Over the past 16 weeks, I’m not sure I’ve learned anything new or crazy about myself, but I’ve been able to sit down each week and reflect on me, which I have loved. This may or may not be true, but I think people spend a lot of time thinking about their job, school, family, money, and a zillion and one other things.
Taking the time to think about only myself for a short time each week and actually capture in words what’s dancing around in my head has helped me organize my thoughts and ideas.
It has helped me put into words some of the things that are important to me that I may not say out loud, but probably should. It has helped me connect with others. It has helped me share my voice in a different capacity. For all of these reasons, I’m so thankful for the opportunity I have had to be a part of BrandKit’s Next Step Chronicles.
So, you might ask – What is your next step? (This is the Next Step Chronicles after all.) My next step is to continue to blog (I swear I’m going to actually do something with the domain I bought years ago: sarahfudin.com), continue to laugh, and continue my journey (whatever that means). Mostly though, I’m going to continue to jump. When opportunities come my way, I’m going to jump, leap and skip towards them because in reality, no one really knows what’s next – do you?
Thanks for following/reading/sharing my posts – I promise there will be more to come!
Sarah,
As a native Upstate New Yorker myself, it was such a treat to watch you retell your story of living as a young 20-something taking on NYC. Thank you for sharing. You have such an amazing spirit, one that is full of life, energy and smiles! I am so happy that you were part of this inaugural team and I know this is only the beginning of your blogging adventure (I hope.) I think you give other young professionals an uber-positive outlook on life and encourage you to continue to take the opportunities that come your way. Jump any chance you get! If you ever need to clear your head and get those words dancing around your head out you are welcome as a guest blogger any time. Also, I will be keeping tabs on you to make sure you do something with sarahfudin.com lady- it’s time to start building your digital brand! (hint hint)
Keep smiling, loving life and embracing your big New York adventure. Big things are headed your way!
Sending you tons of happiness and joy,
Andrea Genevieve
