5 Reasons Why Young Professional Women Need a Mentor

Ladies in an office

Mentors are a lot like older siblings, professors, bosses and moms. They all know you, care about your future and offer advice. But sometimes, as a young, independent chick you want a different kind of guidance.
You need a mentor, someone to help guide you down a path toward the next-best thing in life. Whatever that may be!
There is a special place for mentors in the lives of 20-something professionals, especially young ladies.

5 Reasons Why Young Professional Women Need a Mentor

5. It’s hard to network after college.
In school it was so easy to make friends and connections. Campus, classes and organizations establish a social circle for you. Once you graduate and get out into the real world, it’s a challenge to find good friends, or meet young women with similar interests. A mentor can help expand your social and professional circle.

4. There is a lot to learn from older, wiser ladies.
Just make sure you don’t refer to them as old. As my Grammee always tells me, it’s referred to as getting older, not old. Wise older ladies were once in our shoes and they have some great lessons to pass on to young women of today.

3. Brilliant women need to stick together.
Becoming the boldest, most authentic and awesome version of yourself is more of a fun adventure than a quarter-life crisis when you have someone brilliant by your side. It’s inspiring to learn from an established female professional.

2. It’s nice to get guidance from someone other than your mom.
No offense mom, I love you to death, but sometimes it’s good to have an outside opinion on the ups and downs of life as young professional 20-something.

And finally, the #1 reason why you need a mentor as a professional young lady:

1. You can’t do it all alone.
I know you want to.
Trust me, my brain thinks I am superhuman and could honestly change the world all by myself if I needed to, but at the end of the day I realize that I just can’t do it alone. Women need the support and care of others to really make a difference.
