Job descriptions are so mis-leading sometimes, because you never really end up doing what you thought you would when you first start a job or internship. This weeks personal challenge for the 92,000 Hours Challenges presses us to envision our ideal job and work environment.
By writing out this description now, it can help you to narrow down your focus or broaden it to jobs that fit your matching interests. Or, you can use this as a chance to build components into a job or internship you already have and would like to just tweak a bit. I’m going to use this opportunity to get down on paper what I would like the job description for BrandKit to look like, if it were to become a full-time job. (As an entrepreneur I have many jobs and BrandKit is my moonlighting gig!)
If you just graduated, this may be tough for you, especially if you didn’t have the opportunity to intern or work part time in college. If that’s the case, talk to those you look up to and evaluate their job description or workplace to get a better idea of your likes and dislikes when it comes to work descriptions and environment.
Creating the Ideal Job Description
What type of things would you DO at your Ideal Job?
My ideal job would include communication, connecting others and teaching.
Would you work alone or with others?
I would prefer to work alone, I tend to be a speed worker, but collaborate with others when the time is right!
What would the environment look like?
I adore coffee/tea shops and would make my work environment reflect the ambiance and feeling of a coffee shop. It would have big fluffy chairs, open windows, soft music, amazing aromas and of course a Mac with dual monitors. (I can’t work with out 2 screens!)
Would you travel or stay in the same location?
I have a travel bug, so travel would be a huge part of my ideal job. I love exploring new cities, meeting new people but would need a base to come back to and a place I could call home.
Now its your turn! What is your ideal job description?
